Description: Ecological Zones of Ukraine by Kubijovyc, 1937. This map visualizes data categorizing the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic in the 1930s into distinct "ecozones," based on Volodomyr Kubijovyc's "Atlas of Ukraine and Adjoining Countries". Kubijovyc distinguishes four ecozones that overlap Soviet Ukraine's administrative divisions at the time: -Darker green shading in the north indicates "boreal mixed forest" territory, likely to have been dominated in rural areas by forests of birch, poplar, and conifers. -To the south of boreal mixed territory we see "boreal forest-steppe." -Further to the south we see "dry northern steppe". -Along Ukraine's southern coast we see "dry maritime steppe." The boundary lines indicate the oblast boundaries of the January 15, 1937 administrative division of Ukraine into seven oblasts and the Moldavian Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic (Moldavia).
